Summer Fun

Now that summer is almost over, it is time to sum up our summer experience for you.
The Omaha Public Library system has a lot of library locations and offers a wide variety of activities. They had a summer reading program that they encouraged everyone to participate in, even little Peter. Peter liked this book about monsters so much that I would sometimes find him "reading" it on his own.
Matt and Peter had their birthdays. We decorated with balloons and had an R2D2 Cake. We send a big Thank You to friends and family whose packages and presents made this birthday extra special.
Peter had to push/poke most of the buttons on the cake.
Peter's favorite activity is throwing rocks into water. Here we are at Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs throwing rocks into the water.
There are a few splash pads in the city but this one is our favorite. Peter went wild the first time visiting this one, but since then, he is much more reserved and sticks to the "baby" water fountains.
At some point this summer, our little family changed our plan once again. Instead of attending Creighton Nursing School in the fall, we decided Matt would apply for medical schools and become a full fledged MD. As soon as that decision was made, almost ALL of Matt's free time was spent studying for the MCAT, which is the Medical College Admissions Test. He takes it this week and I am so proud of the work he has put in to refreshing his mind on subjects he took so long ago in his undergraduate studies.

Because Matt has needed extensive study time, Peter and I have had the opportunity to find ourselves out of the house a lot. So we go to the zoo . . . weekly. Above you see Peter in front of the polar bear cage. Below is actually a picture of when Matt took Peter to the zoo. They went into the "barn" petting area.
Peter thinks all the animals are great. Any time he learns to make a new noise with his voice or mouth, I ask him what animal makes that sound and his typical answer is "giraffe".
Mr. Potato Head has become one of Peter's favorite toys. I like to see him using his fine motor skills to put the face together. I wish I could get some good video of his play time because it is amazing the language skills and intelligence he displays while doing simple games. I am in awe!
